We collect what the app needs to work: an account so your reviews are yours, the reviews and photos you choose to post, and enough technical information to keep the thing running and to deal with abuse.
There are no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs in the app. No Google Analytics, no Firebase, no Facebook SDK, no Sentry, no ad network. Nobody is buying your behaviour from us, because we are not collecting it for them and we do not sell data.
North Shore Beefs is operated by XSV Development. If you want to reach a person about anything on this page, use the contact form and pick "Privacy".
When you sign up we store a username, an email address, and a password.
Passwords are hashed with bcrypt. We never store, and cannot read, your actual password. If you ask for a reset we email a single-use token that expires.
Optionally, and only if you add them: a display name, a profile picture, and a bio.
Reviews, ratings, the beef details you log, photos and video, comments, likes, votes and who you follow. This is the content of the app and it is visible to other users by design. Treat anything you post as public.
If you allow location access, the app uses your coordinates to sort shops by distance and to show what is near you. Those coordinates are sent with the request that needs them, used to answer it, and not saved to your account.
You can refuse location permission and the app still works — you lose distance sorting and "near me", not the app.
One honest caveat: like almost any web service, our server writes standard request logs, and a request that carried coordinates will appear in them. Those logs are operational, short-lived, and not joined to your profile.
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| IP address and device/browser string at login | Account security, and investigating abuse or ban evasion |
| Activity records (what was liked, viewed or reviewed) | Building your feed, streaks and stats |
| Shop page views and taps | Telling a shop owner how many people looked them up. Aggregate counts, per month |
| Reports and moderation records | Acting on reported content and keeping a record of why |
We do not sell personal information. We do not share it for advertising. A small number of services process data because the app needs them to function:
We will also disclose information where we are legally required to, or where it is necessary to protect somebody's safety.
Your account and content stay until you delete them. Operational logs are kept only as long as they are useful for security and debugging. Moderation records for a banned account are kept so that a ban means something.
You can request deletion from inside the app, or through the contact form.
When an account is deleted we remove your profile, your email address and your personal details. Reviews you posted may remain in place with the author removed, because other people's replies, votes and a shop's rating history depend on them. If you want a specific review taken down entirely, ask and we will remove it.
The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
Depending on where you live you may have the right to see what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or ask for a copy. Massachusetts has no comprehensive consumer privacy statute at the time of writing, but we will honour these requests regardless of where you are. Use the contact form.
If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top and, where the change actually affects you, say so in the app.
